Supporting the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), John Fardoulis helped to compile a crater database using UAS data captured from mortar and artillery fire at a military facility in Germany.
Data outputs varied from high-resolution RGB imagery, to NRGB images, high-resolution orthomosaics, three-dimensional surface models and point clouds. The following videos show how the terrain is digitally modelled to review 82mm mortar impact craters, as part of research into deriving the trajectories of ordnance, based on crater evidence.
